MERCY SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
Grants For Students Studying
Careers In Healthcare
(June 30, 2008 - Rockville Centre, NY)
- The Council of Leagues of Mercy Medical Center has presented
its annual Sister Mary Grace Memorial Scholarships, providing
one-time grants for students in financial need who are studying
careers in healthcare.
The scholarships, which range from $500 to $1,000, are awarded
in memory of Sister Mary Grace, who served as Moderator of the
Leagues for many years and encouraged individuals to pursue
compassionate service to the sick.
The recipients for 2008 are:
- Joanna Clifford of Malverne, who will be starting at Springfield
College in Massachusetts in the fall in pursuit of bachelor’s
and master’s degrees in occupational therapy.
- Jasmine English of Uniondale, who will be starting at Delhi
State University of New York in the fall in pursuit of an
associate degree in nursing.
- Nicole Gerace of Elmont, a single mother raising a 12-year-old
son and working part time while attending the Mercy Medical
Center School of Radiography.
- Alicia Ann Kim of Inwood, a single mother of four children
ages seven through ten, who is attending the Nassau Community
College associate degree program in nursing.
- Susan Patashny of Long Beach, a single mother of two daughters,
who is attending the Nassau Community College associate degree
program in nursing.
- Ronnie Van Dover of North Babylon, who is in the final
year of a bachelor’s degree program in nursing at Molloy College.
- Erin Walter of West Islip, who begins a pre-med program
at Philadelphia University in the fall.
- The Rockville Centre Community Action Program, which provides
scholarships for motivated high school students going on to
college.
