NAMES DANIEL G. MURPHY, MD SENIOR DIRECTOR OF PATIENT CARE OPERATIONS

- Mercy Medical Center has appointed Daniel G. Murphy, MD as
Senior Director of Patient Care Operations. In the newly-created
position, Dr. Murphy is part of the medical center’s Executive
Staff and responsible for all services provided by Mercy’s hospitalists,
in-house physicians who specialize in managing the care of hospital
patients.
Dr. Murphy also is supervising the Center for Geriatric Excellence
program, which provides enhanced care and coordination of services
for patients admitted to Mercy from skilled nursing facilities.
Dr. Murphy, who resides in Garden City, has been Director of
Emergency Medicine since 2004 and will continue in that role
as well. He joined Mercy from Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn,
where he was Vice Chairman and Medical Director of the Department
of Emergency Medicine. His two decades of experience in emergency
and trauma care include earlier positions as Research Director
in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Resurrection Medical
Center, and Assistant Director of Research in the Department
of Emergency Medicine at Cook County Hospital, both in Chicago.
Dr. Murphy is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow
of the American College of Emergency Medicine. A graduate of
Georgetown University, he received his medical degree from the
University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School and
earned an MBA from Hofstra University.
