Dr. Eric L. Freeman Joins Mercy Medical Center As Director of Orthopedic Surgery
(March 5, 2012 - RockvilleCentre, NY) - Eric L. Freeman, MD, FAAOS of South Island Orthopaedic Group in Cedarhurst has joined Mercy Medical Center as Director of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Freeman, who resides in Roslyn, also will serve as Chief of Sports Medicine, a specialty he has been practicing on Long Island for more than a decade.
"Dr. Freeman's unique experience and expertise will further enhance Mercy Medical Center's well-established leadership in orthopedic care," said Aaron E. Glatt, MD, the hospital's Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. "His appointment will enable Mercy to broaden our offerings in arthroscopic and other minimally-invasive orthopedic procedures."
Dr. Freeman received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, where he was a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education, and he did initial postgraduate training in orthopedic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year.
To further advance his knowledge and specialize his training, Dr. Freeman completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia. During his fellowship he served as Associate Physician with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dr. Freeman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of, and instructor for, the Arthroscopy Association of North America. His work has been published in leading orthopedic journals and presented at local hospitals and society meetings. In addition to his practice duties, Dr. Freeman has also served as the School Physician for Hewlett High School for the past 12 years.
