Mercy Medical Center Initiates Podiatry Residency Program

(March 1, 2012 - RockvilleCentre, NY) - In the latest enhancement of it clinical services, Mercy Medical Center will begin training podiatry residents and fellows as part of a fully accredited residency / fellowship program in podiatry.

"This new service will allow highly qualified post-graduate physicians to enhance their clinical education by participating in the excellent clinical care for patients with foot and ankle disorders at Mercy," explained Dr. Aaron Glatt, Mercy's Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

The participating residents and fellows will contribute to improved outcomes for a broad range of patients, including those requiring care of diabetic foot pathology, wound infection management and limb salvage, treatment of trauma injuries, reconstructive foot surgery, correction of bio-mechanical problems and sports medicine care.

Initially encompassing eight post-graduate physicians, the program, being conducted in conjunction with Dr. Lloyd Bardfeld, Chair of Podiatric Surgery and Director of the Podiatric Training Program at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, is expected to expand later in the year.
