250 Supporters Turn Out For Friends of Mercy Medical Center St. Patrick's Dinner
(March 18, 2009 – Rockville Centre, NY) – Despite the challenging economic environment, a capacity crowd of 250 attendees turned out for The Friends of Mercy Medical Center's 43rd Annual Gentlemen's St. Patrick's Dinner.
The black-tie event on March 12th at the Hempstead Golf and Country Club honored Rabbi Barry Dov Schwartz, spiritual leader of Temple B'Nai Sholom in Rockville Centre, and was underwritten by The Feil Family Foundation and Neurological Surgery, PC, the largest private neurosurgery practice on Long Island. Speakers included Tom Schaudel, noted chef and restaurateur, who regaled the audience with curious tales of the Long Island restaurant trade from his new book "Playing With Fire: Whining and Dining on the Gold Coast".
Immediate past president of The Friends, Rob Bossart, presented a check for $200,000 to Bishop Paul Walsh, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and Dr. Alan Guerci, Mercy's president and CEO, representing the proceeds of The Friends' 2008 fundraising activities.
The Friends have raised over $1.25 million in the past four years, supporting the 2006 completion of the hospital's state-of-the-art North Pavilion, enhancement of the medical center's Emergency, Trauma and Express Care facilities, including a new Express Care radiology suite, and most recently, the acquisition of new digital mammography and other state-of-the-art equipment in the hospital's Women's Imaging Center.
