Ways To Give
Council of Leagues
Since their beginning in 1915, when ladies from Hempstead sold linens on the lawn of Mercy to raise funds for the work of the Sisters, the Leagues of Mercy have been among the outstanding auxiliary organizations in New York State.
Today, there are nine Leagues with more than 2,000 members in fourteen communities: Rockville Centre, Bellmore, East Meadow, Floral Park, Garden City, Glen Cove, Hicksville, Syosset, Hempstead, West Hempstead, Malverne, Lynbrook, Roslyn and Westbury.
The Leagues raise significant funds each year for capital improvement projects at Mercy through the local fundraising events of the individual groups, which include luncheons, fashion shows, theatre parties, trips, auctions, raffles, along with support of the more ambitious projects in which they join together in the Council of Leagues.
The Council raises funds through the operation of the hospital's gift shop; Thrift Shop on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead; support of the hospital's Garden of Caring and Newborn Wall of Celebration; and the annual Tree of Lights holiday tree lighting.
The Leagues are actively seeking new members, women who would be willing to donate time to raising funds for Mercy, while expanding their social horizons.
