Geriatric

In January 2008, Mercy Medical Center announced their new standardized care program for all Skilled Nursing Facility Patients (SNF), known as the Center for Geriatrics Excellence Program.

The program uses dedicated beds, hospital-based physicians and geriatric expertise to enhance and address the many complex needs of this patient population:

• After an emergency physician assessment, most SNF patients receive focused and attentive evaluation and treatment in a space away from the main emergency department.
• SNF patients requiring admission receive care from our staff of hospital physicians, who draw on the knowledge and experience of our full-time Director of Geriatric Medicine.
• The service attempts to maintain close communication with the patients’ families, personal physicians and skilled nursing facilities.
